The chilly days may keep you indoors, but they also present the perfect opportunity for quality family time. Don't let the weather dampen your spirits; instead, embrace the cosiness of your home and engage in fun indoor activities that will keep your little ones entertained. Here are some creative ideas for families with kids aged 0-6 to make the most of those cold days!
Indoor Obstacle Course
Create an obstacle course using cushions, chairs, and any other safe, soft objects you have at home. Let your kids crawl, jump, and manoeuvre through this exciting challenge. It's a fantastic way to burn off some energy and keep them active.
DIY Art Gallery
Encourage your child's artistic talents by setting up an art gallery right at home. Provide them with art supplies and let them create their masterpieces. A favourite craft of ours is making a snow globe. Here’s what you will need to make snow globes:
Materials
Small glass jar
Plastic figurine or Lego (reuse what you have)
Glycerin (optional, but improves glitter flow)
Glitter
Sequins
Water
Spoon
Superglue or hot glue gun
Directions
Find a plastic figurine or Lego piece your child likes for the snow globe.
Glue the chosen item onto the inside of the jar's lid.
Fill the jar with cold water.
Add 1-2 teaspoons of glitter and stir.
Include a few drops of glycerin.
Securely screw on the jar's lid, or glue it to prevent opening.
Shake the jar or tip it upside down to make it "snow".
With more fun crafts like this at home that resonate the beauty of the cold weather, you can hang their artwork around the house and host a family art show.
Treasure Hunt
This classic game never gets old. Create clues and hide small prizes around the house. Then, watch your little explorers embark on a treasure hunt. It's a great way to stimulate problem-solving skills and boost their imagination.
Family Bake-Off
Get your tiny chefs involved in the kitchen. Allow them to help with simple tasks like mixing, pouring, or decorating. You can have a bake-off to see who makes the best shped cookies or best decoared cupcakes. Baking is not only fun but also a tasty way to learn about measurements and how to best follow instructions. Here are some fun recipes to try with your family for these cold months:
Shadow Puppet Show
Dim the lights and use a flashlight to create a shadow puppet theatre. Your kids can make puppets from cardboard, and then they can put on a show using the light and shadows. It's a fun way to boost their creativity and storytelling abilities.
Movie Marathon
Choose some of the best family-friendly movies and set up a movie marathon. Whether it's animated classics or newer releases, a movie marathon provides an opportunity for relaxation and bonding. Here is a collection of movies you can choose for a rainy day:
Ages 2-3:
Snoopy Presents: For Auld Lang Syne
The Snowman
The Snowy Day
Strawberry Shortcake Winter Collection
Bear Snores On
Ages 4-6:
101 Dalmatians
Frozen
Snow Buddies

No matter how chilly it is outside, these indoor activities will keep your family warm with laughter and shared moments. Embrace the winter days and turn them into an opportunity for fun and bonding.
